Engagement Pictures!

I never really understood the point of engagement pictures. I guess it captures the moment in time, when you got engaged, but it still confuses me. Am I supposed to use these for something? Mr. CP's friend and groomsmen, offered to take ours for us. He is just starting a business, and did an amazing job. We are so pleased with these pictures!!! I bet you can't tell is was the most humid, hot night ever. We decided on the Zoo, since this is where we got engaged and where we fell in love. Check out some of my favorites.

<--- This is my favorite picture from the day. It's the exact place where Mr. CP proposed!
What do you think of the idea of Engagement Photos? What do you use them for? Any idea?
(All pictures were taken by Groomsmen Jimmie Perkins)

I thinkg the engagement shoot is a good opportunity to get to know your photographer. I can be a little camera shy, so I think it will be a good opportunity to get more comfortable. We are doing our engagement shoot in various spots in the city where we met, fell in love, my fiance proposed, and where we are getting married. It is sentimental for us. We are going to take a few of the best shots in different areas and use them for Save the dates, since they will be in the same location as the destination wedding, I think it may get peopel excited for the wedding weekend.

In the South it is traditional for the parents of the bride-to-be and groom-to-be to put an engagement announcement in the newspaper of the bride's and groom's home towns. Originally the tradition was for this picture to just be of the bride-to-be, but over the years it has become customary to provide a picture of the bride-to-be and groom-to-be. The wedding announcement is still traditionally just of the bride and is taken before the wedding so that the picture will be in the paper the Sunday after the wedding. Brides like it because it provides an opportunity to do a dry run of hair/makeup/wardrobing before the actual event and figure out what you're missing and how long the whole process will take for planning purposes. Because DC is a border town, photographers often offer bridal and/or engagement shoots in their packages.

Super cute pictures!

Engagement photos are great for a few reasons. Personally, as a photographer they are a MUST for me! It really helps me to get to know my couples better and to help me see how they photograph! It also gives you the chance to give the photographer feedback, sometimes I totally LOVE a shot I get and think the couple looks amazing but the couple may think the pose is horrible and unflattering. Photographers want to know these things so they can do their absolute best on your wedding day! Know what I mean?

Fun things for your pictures:

Save the date announcements.
Images for your wedding website.
A guest book for the wedding featuring the pictures.
Images for framing and putting out at your wedding/reception.

And to be honest (even though I am a photographer), portraits in your wedding photos will date themselves faster than these more casual/natural shots will so they make great enlargements/gifts.

-your bridal party can display your engagement pictures at your bridal shower
-you can display them around your house (your parents might want one if they don't already have pictures of you and your FH)
-you can display them on you desk at work

We're using our engagement photos for all kinds of things — save-the-dates, our wedsite, and we'll have a photo on the guestbook table at the reception. Our family and friends have really enjoyed looking at our photos too, so it gets you some points on that front. :)

Engagement photos have a lot of uses! For the photographer, it helps to get to know the beautiful couple and for the beautiful couple, the images can be used for a lot of creative ideas that get the families and friends excited in the event. I have seen everything from guest books, to post cards, to large framed photos for the guests to sign.

I, personally, love taking engagement photos!! It really gives me a chance to laugh and talk with the bride when she isn't getting her hair, nails, and make-up done while simultaneously trying to hunt down every member of the wedding party. lol.
