We're Expecting!

Nope, I'm not pregnant, but I'll give you a couple of hints:

He can't come home until after April 21st cause he's still just a baby but he'll be here soon. Most of you probably think getting a puppy a month before your wedding is bad timing...and you're probably right but this is something I've waited a long time for (he's my reward for a hard year last year).

In the mean time if you have any suggestions on anything related to puppies or Dachshunds in particular I'm all ears (good books, good trainers in the D.C. area, good vets in the area, any products you love for your pet, food recommendations, advice in general etc.)

Yay! Now I have something to obsessively research besides weddings :)

Awwwww. So cute! One of my best friends and her husband brough the puppy home with them from their minimoon/weekend and have never regretted it.

As far as recomendations - Wellness food! I discovered it for my mom's dogs when there was that dog food scare and the 12 year dogs basically started looking younger and their fur got all soft and shiny. Then I adopted two FIV-positive kittens and they are so healthy on Wellness kitten food. It uses real ingredients like fish and meat and not corn and animal byproducts. Read all the testimonials on the website - I really didn't believe them when I read them but I am a convert now.

oooooooh no no no...that's not me!! Honestly I am no where near that pretty or in shape. Haha. I wish I were.

Those pics are from 3 different sites, 3 different couples, and there are 3 different dachshunds. The guy in the first pic, isn't getting married to the girl in the second, they are from different weddigns.

Ooooh how exciting! Especially if you are getting a mini dachsund, get him used to wearing a sweater while he is little! I know it sounds ridiculous, but they get very cold very easily in winter and will shiver like crazy when outside, poor things. Otherwise, I'm not sure if this is true of all dachsunds but ours was a pretty tough one to train to "go" outside, so just be patient - it will happen. And maybe find a way to keep him in a non-carpeted area until it does happen (like baby gates). And of course you probably know that their backs are fragile because they are so long, so don't encourage them to or let them jump too much/too high :) They are a lot of fun, really lively and love to play and so sweet - they are always happy to see you. Congrats!

Congratulations! Having a puppy is one of the biggest joys in life. I love my little guy like he was my own child!

We crate trained our dog and it worked great! When we left the house an at night we would put him in his little crate. The theory is that they don't want to go potty in their home so they will hold it until it's time to go out. You have to be diligent and take them out a lot (because little puppies have little bladders), but our guy was potty trained in no time! Good luck!
