It's Heeeerrrrreeeee

While Fiancé and I were in Vermont over the holiday vacation, I got THE call.

The call that every bride anticipates and looks forward to....

"Hello Miss GP, we're calling from [bridal boutique] to let you know that your dress is in. Please call us to schedule an appointment." Blah blah blah.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So finally, after weeks and weeks of agony and missed calls and phone tag with the bridal shop, I got a hold of them. I scheduled my "try on and pick up" appointment - which is just that. I try it on, and then I bring it home till I schedule my alterations. Bridesmaid E (aka Miss Jeff Memorial) will likely be going with me but Fiancé will probably drive us up there. And wait in the car. Because well...it's not super metro-accessible.

But one small problem. Well...maybe small, maybe big, maybe not at all.

You see, I was planning on scheduling the alterations right away (despite being 8 months out from our big day) and then Mama GP was going to come down for my second alteration to bring the dress back to Vermont with her (our storage space is minimal) for safe keeping until our big day (she'll likely be here for the week preceding the wedding). Except, I don't need to schedule my alterations till May.

....

*!^$#&$*@!!!!!!

You see, Fiancé and I have minimal storage space. And a dog. A dog who likes to pee and destroy things. My mission is to find a puppy free spot in my closet (the dog doesn't go in there anyhow) where fiancé won't see it.

Of course now that my alterations will be done in May and probably picked up early August...what's the point of Mama GP coming down to go with me if she's just going to drive home and then drive back with it a month later? If I can keep it safe for five months surely it'll be fine for the last month or two after the alterations.

However, despite the storage difficulties, this is not necessarily a bad thing. I'm running a marathon at the end of May and a couple of races beforehand so getting in shape before the fittings is a given! I don't care so much about my weight but my arms? Now those need some work (thank you wii fit and your fabulous strength training that is keeping me going!), but now? I have some time! Hoorah!

I have a dress! I have a dress! I have a dresssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!! (And i have shoes!!! Double squeee!!!!)

i second asking the shop - my shop will hold mine until the wedding as well and i even bought it as a sample which i assumed meant i had to take it home with me.

if they don't store it... well i would just hold onto it, it seems alot of unnecessary travel for mama. plus you'll probably want to have your final fitting a few weeks before the wedding so you'll need it before she comes the week before.

@ miss fairfax - I'm doing 2 this year - VT City in my hometown of Burlington VT in may and then Philadelphia in late November. I'm also doing a 10 miler in April in alexandria and an 8k on St. Patricks day.

@notsojenny/Miss CP - i think i asked them if they could store it when i purchased it and they said they didn't have the room :/ A friend told me i could store it at her mothers house in alexandria if need be as thats where she's keeping her dress. Might take her up on that depending on how my search for storage goes tonight (aka how well can i clean my closet)

my only concern is if its someone you dont know that well, (i.e. friend's mom) what will you say if an accident happens? I mean, if a cat tears it or they spill something. I would die. I face the same issue and am really lucky about the store. I can't imagine they wont hold it for you!! Thats terrible!

Congrats!! Once my dress arrives I'll have the same issue - I ordered my dress where my parents live (several states away) but will need to have it here to be altered and for the wedding. Since closet space is extremely limited in our apartment one of my bridesmaids offered to store it in one of the closets in her house - while it makes me nervous in some ways I know she'll take good care of it and it'll likely keep my dress in better shape since it won't be shoved in my closet.
