Saying Goodbye is Hard to Do

One of my best friends just got married last weekend (Congrats, Guys!). She is my matron of honor and I was one of her bridesmaids and being engaged at the same time has lead to lots of overlap. We got engaged two weeks apart, so of course all of our emails and conversations have been all about weddings for the past 10 months. We have swapped ideas here and there and are using the same vendors in some cases, for example our fantastic florist.

This, however, is one idea she did not tell me about...
(these folks not my friends, but you get the idea, photo found here)I had no idea that sneaky vixen was planning such a gorgeous and classic send off at the end of the night. Mr. Glen Echo and I almost missed it when we were about to head out right before the end of the reception. I was totally impressed. The pictures are absolutely beautiful and I wish I could share them with you guys.

So, I began thinking about what I could do to end the night with a grand flourish, such as this. I am hesitant to do the same thing because...to me that is cheating... Plus, it seems like you are stealing ideas and I don't want to be that girl. HOWEVER...I could pass it off as my something borrowed...

In brainstorming the idea, I came up with the following options:

1) Bubbles
I like the idea of bubbles and think they would be great as a send off idea if our wedding was during the day or inside. Unfortunately, bubbles will not show up at night time and really would not provide the drama I am looking for.

2) Rose Petals
(photo found here)

This may be a viable option. I would have to check with the venue, but I cannot imagine there is a rule against the throwing of roses. I do know bird seed is out of the question and prohibited...but roses... eh.... Although, still...not as dramatic.

3) Confetti
(photo by Kristen Bednarz, found here)
I do not think confetti is outlawed...however, it has to be nightmare to clean up.

4) Glow Sticks! (AWESOME!)
(photo found here)
This so far is my favorite idea! I have no idea where to find glow sticks...especially in the same color...but where there is an internet, there is a way. I think it would go perfect with the background of the giant "Glen Echo" neon sign...I can totally picture it now.

Are you planning to do a grand send off from your reception?

Dollar Tree....package of them (4 or 5 I think) for $1.00. I loaded up on them when I got married so there would be something to keep the kids happy. We didn't do a big exit since everyone was camping out that weekend.
We have a wedding chapel that we clean up the outside area after the weddings and I've really reached the point I HATE bubbles and those fake flower petals. AND candy wrappers. Oh and people leaving dirty diapers on the ground when the trash is 10 steps away.
