Play that funky music

We're comin' down to the line, ladies and gents!!! We are officially 12 days from The Big Day today. Hard to believe. And with it getting so close, I'm doing all kinds of juggling to make things happen. Today my boss actually said, "Maybe you should think about taking at least one more day off in addition to your other days so you can really be ready." Uhhhh... kind of a not so obvious hint, eh? I bet she thinks I'm going crazy with everything going on. Probably since I think I said so (verbatim) in the midst of the conversation.

Anyway, today I managed to do my job AND multi-task by getting some contracts and vendors confirmed in addition to making some major headway with our song list. Here's what I've managed to pull together within the last few days:

Entrance/Introduction - "At Last" by Etta James

First dance
- "Groovy Kinda Love" by Phil Collins

Father/bride dance - "Danny's song" by Kenny Loggins

Mother/groom dance - "First time ever I saw your face" sung by Celine Dion

Anniversary dance (we aren't doing the garter/bouquet toss) - "Everything" by Michael Buble

Kids' dance - "Baby Elephant walk" by Henry Mancini

Cake cutting
- "Young at heart" by Sinatra

Last Dance/Farewell
- "I swear" by John Michael Montgomery

At the start of the meal

- "Conga"
- "Locomotion"
- anything by Hinder
- anything by Nickelback
- "Who Let the Dogs out" by Baha Men
- "My humps" by Black eyed peas

Not too shabby considering I got a major amount of this accomplished today alongside teaching "Read aloud strategies" and "Organizational patterns of informational texts." Go ahead - inflate my ego. I'm AWESOME.

*Not really but please let me humor myself because I feel a little guilty after just eating an entire half a block of cheese in about 10 minutes - eating for two right? I take this SERIOUSLY!*

Anyway, I'm kind of excited about our song list! I never realized that I have so many "favorite" type songs. I had a hard time getting started but then I googled for other people's play lists and took notes from them - especially with regard to the "DO NOT PLAY" portion at the end.

Some things that we are doing specifically are adding things like a "Kids' dance" since we are having a significant number of little chitlin's under the age of 7 in attendance and the "Baby Elephant Walk" is a personal favorite of husband2be and mine that has served as inspiration for the nursery theme that we are going with for our baby! I can't wait to see all of the little ones on the dance floor "bustin' their groove thangs" *yes - I said thangs!* to this very silly song. And you better believe that husband2be and I will be out there with them!!!

Another thing that we are doing is the songs that are marked with asterisks are all ones that were played as the "First Dances" for each of our brothers/sisters and parents. We don't expect any of them to get up and do any kind of spotlight dancing but we figure it's a good way to a) recognize them as family members, b) allow them to hear "their songs" because how often does that happen(?), and c) automatically get them out of the dance floor to "inspire" others to dance!

Husband2be sort-of helped to compile this list. It's been mostly me doing it but he's going to be looking at it and probably adding his own songs in there because I know he wants some George Clinton - he's mentioned this before.

I'd say we're pretty good to go though if this is what we end up going from. Not bad at all, I think.

Fabulous..., you've taken half the work out of finding the right songs.... but more importantly... you've highlighted the WRONG songs.... (I'm meeting with the hopeful DJs/bands mid-feb)
